Syed Farooq Mohyud Din is a second-year PhD student in the Department of Religion at Rice University and an interdisciplinary scholar working at the intersection of religion and emerging technologies, with a particular focus on Artificial Intelligence. His research examines the ethical dimensions of technology through Muslim traditions and mysticism, while employing archival and ethnographic methods. His additional research interests include eschatology within the Abrahamic tradition, particularly Christianity and Islam.
Before joining Rice, Syed Farooq completed his MPhil and Master's degrees in Pakistan, where he explored themes of Orientalism and Modernity, and he brings additional depth to his scholarship through a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology.
At Rice University, he has served as a Teaching Assistant across multiple disciplines, including courses such as "Data Ethics, Data, Ethics, and Society" and "The Life of the Prophet Muhammad." His recently recorded lectures on Introduction to Islam and Introduction to the Bahá'í Faith are now featured in the World Religions curriculum at the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College.
