Shreya is a junior at Rice University on the pre-med track majoring in Social Policy Analysis and minoring in Medical Humanities and Biochemistry and Cell Biology. They are interested in exploring how policy and healthcare infrastructure affects existing health disparities. As a CHHAIN fellow, they examine how patient trust is impacted by the development of medical AI tools.

Shreya is currently working on compiling a literature review to explore existing research on patient trust in health AI models. This will aim to inform future CHHAIN research involving interviews with patient populations that explore their perceptions of AI and how health AI models influence access in healthcare deserts. By pursuing this project, they hope to learn about the effects of AI expansion into the medical field, particularly as it affects patients in underserved communities.
