Hi! My name is Niamh Reinsch, and I’m currently a junior at Duncan. I’m double-majoring in Cognitive Science and Linguistics, and pursuing the CLIC Chinese language certificate. This past summer, I studied abroad in Taiwan through the CET Taiwan program, an experience that was both academically and personally enriching. For ten weeks, I took Chinese classes at the National Taiwan University.
I’m open to talking with other students about basically every aspect of studying abroad. I feel comfortable talking about my experiences as an LGBTQ+ student and as a woman abroad, as well as navigating life as a dual (German-American) citizen in different cultural contexts. I also know that many students worry about mental health, and I’d be happy to share my own perspective on managing anxiety, bringing medications abroad, and learning to navigate unfamiliar medical systems.
Finally, I understand that challenges like homesickness and imposter syndrome are common but not always talked about. These were real parts of my own experience, and I’d be happy to offer support, advice, or just an ear to anyone who might navigate similar feelings while abroad.
