Mercy Dwomoh is a PhD student in the Department of History at Rice University. Before joining the Rice History Department, she earned a Bachelor of Education in History from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, and a master's degree in History from Virginia Tech. Her research examines modern Ghana, African intellectual history, gender, and print culture, with a particular focus on the political thought of Mabel Dove-Danquah. Her current research explores how Mabel Dove-Danquah used journalism as a form of political thought to shape debates on nationalism, women's political participation, and decolonization in the Gold Coast (now Ghana). More broadly, her work investigates how newspapers and other forms of print media served as spaces for political thought and public debate in twentieth-century Africa. Through this research, she seeks to recover the intellectual contributions of African women writers and demonstrate their central role in shaping nationalist movements and political ideas.
