Lee, Jasmin - PhD Candidate

WEBSITE(S)| Curriculum Vitae

My research studies urban educational inequality, drawing on the subfields of race/racism, immigration, and social movements to understand how educational institutions shape disparities within and beyond schools. My dissertation research examines the 2023 state takeover of the Houston Independent School District, and I center the lived experiences of families, educators, and community members to understand how this state-initiated intervention shapes everyday schooling experiences, local racial politics, and collective (in)action. Partnership-oriented research guides my approach, both through institutionalized partnerships, like research-practice partnerships, and relationships with community-based actors and organizations. My preferred pronouns are she/her/hers.
