Heidi is a doctoral student in the Department of Philosophy. Her primary interest is political philosophy and has several puzzles she would like to pursue: in addition to grounding questions with respect to political authority, Heidi is especially interested in identifying whether differing levels of state authority result in the suffering or flourishing of its citizens and what extrapolations from this can appropriately be made in political philosophy, moral psychology, and ethics. Heidi would also like to explore redemptive suffering: i.e., the ways in which suffering is beneficial.
