Tracy Volz is the director of the Engineering Communication Program and an award-winning Professor in the Practice. She has been engaged in communication instruction, scholarship, consulting and outreach for twenty years. From 2013-2018, she led Rice University's Program in Writing and Communication (PWC). Prior to directing the PWC, she was a senior lecturer in the Rice Center for Engineering Leadership. In addition to working with faculty and students, Tracy has led communication seminars for engineers, physicians, and business professionals. Currently, Volz leads Activate, the Engineering Communication Program.
Main Responsibilities:
- Work with engineering departments and faculty to integrate written, oral, and visual communication into graduate and undergraduate courses
- Teach communication courses, creates communication resources, and prepare students for competitions
- Contribute to initiatives such as the Future Faculty Fellows program and the Teaching Assistant Training program
