Terrence J. Brooks, Ed.D. (he/him) is the Associate Vice Provost for Campus Engagement in the Office of Access and Institutional Excellence at Rice University. In his role, he supports campus engagement initiatives, pluralism efforts, and the Multicultural Center. Brooks is an educator and higher education practitioner with over 20 years of experience in public, private, 4-year, and 2-year institutions. Prior to Rice, Brooks served as a college administrator overseeing operations involving student belonging, accountability, support, threat assessment, residential learning, commuter engagement, ombuds operations, and global diversity and inclusion.
Outside of work, Brooks has been active as an Equity Champion for the Ohio Association of Community Colleges, an appointed member of the Franklin County Reentry Advisory Board, and a core team member of the Central Ohio Restored Citizens’ Collaborative. He has also served on the boards of the Kaleidoscope Youth Center (an Ohio LGBTQ+ youth center), Stonewall Columbus (an Ohio LGBTQ+ community center), and My Cousin’s House (a wellness, rest, and group development center). As a newcomer to Houston, Brooks looks forward to connecting with the broader community in service and recreation.
A first-generation college student, Brooks earned a Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership from Franklin University, Master of Science in College Student Personnel from Western Illinois University, and Bachelor of Arts in English from The Ohio State University
