WEBSITE(S)| The Wang Group - The "CAT" Group | Tae-Ung Wi Research

Tae-Ung Wi obtained his undergraduate degree in the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from the Pusan National University (PNU). He studied biodegradable plastics as his undergraduate research project and received the best dissertation prize (1st award). He continued graduate studies at Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) under the direction of Prof. Hyun-Wook Lee in the School of Energy and Chemical Engineering. During his Ph. D. degree, he studied battery science and technology. He focused on the development of next-generation battery materials and advanced transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques, such as in-situ and cryogenic TEM. He received the outstanding graduate student (2nd award) during his Ph.D. research projects.

At Rice University, Tae-Ung is working with Prof. Haotian Wang in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. His research mainly focuses on developing electrocatalyst materials for producing C2+ products using CO2/CO gas and designing efficient reactors (electrolyzers) for practical use of CCUS techniques. Tae-Ung also has research interests  on production of green fuel (H2O2, Formate, NH3, …) through eco-friendly (O2), waste (CO2), and harmful (NOx) reactants and advanced techniques (Liquid cell - 4D STEM and other in-situ spectroscopy) to understand reaction chemistry.
