Susan Garrison serves as the Director of Access Services and Education Librarian at Rice University's Fondren Library, bringing over two decades of multifaceted experience spanning academic, corporate, public, medical, and school libraries. With a keen focus on cultivating a culture of inclusivity and exceptional service, she leads a diverse team of 18 staff members while championing mentorship and professional development.
Committed to advancing student success, Susan collaborates with various campus departments on projects, initiatives, and research support endeavors. Her dedication to service excellence has been acknowledged through accolades such as the Shapiro Library Staff Innovation Award and two Rice University Board of Trustees Recognitions.
In addition to her impactful contributions at Rice, Susan actively participates in national library organizations, including the American Library Association and the Association of College & Research Libraries, serving on committees and presenting at conferences. She holds the position of ACRL University Libraries Section Member at Large and several additional ACRL committee assignments. Susan holds a Master’s in Library Science from Rutgers University, a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Houston – Downtown, and is pursuing a Doctorate in Educational Policy and Leadership Studies: Higher Education from the University of Iowa.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Susan finds fulfillment in community service through St. Michael the Archangel, Houston. She enjoys exploring her passions for travel, biking, baking, and quality time with her family.
