Sukaina Ahmed is the Accounting Specialist at the OEDK, with over 18 years of experience. Prior to coming to Rice University, she served as a Finance Coordinator for a Private School and as a Trust Administrator for J.P. Morgan Chase.

Sukaina started working at the OEDK as a part-time Staff Assistant in the summer of 2013. She decided to give her career a back seat at the time, as she wanted to spend more time with her family, especially her two girls. Since then she has been promoted to an Accounting Assistant II and now an Accounting Specialist. Some of her responsibilities include tracking budgets, preparing balance reports, processing payments and award checks, year-end closing processes, reconciling purchasing card charges, reimbursements and travel reconciliations for students, faculty, and staff. Sukaina received the Brown School of Engineering Hardy Bourland for Distinguished Service Award in 2022, and the Board of Trustees Award in 2019 for dedication and contributions to Rice University.

In addition to her accounting and finance responsibilities at the OEDK, Sukaina is always willing to step up and help with various OEDK events, from preparation tasks to set up to break down. She is the first point of contact for all judges and guests at the annual Engineering Design Showcase, her warm smiling welcome makes judges and guests feel comfortable at our event. She also helps with the Around the Kitchen Table events and other events such as OEDK Open Houses throughout the year.

Sukaina has been a crucial part of the OEDK, with the new Imagine One system, as she worked around the ups and downs of the system, and found ways to get things done, correctly. She has spent countless hours to learn and understand the new system. She has a keen eye for detail and accuracy, and she is able to work independently or as part of a team. Sukaina holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Finance from the University of Houston. She is passionate about helping students, faculty, and staff in needed areas.
