Steven Gubka works on the philosophy of emotions and the ethics of technology. In his latest research projects, Dr. Gubka is investigating questions related to using AI for emotional labor, such as: In what ways does the (mis)use of emotion recognition technology contribute to injustice? Does using ChatGPT to generate emotional writing on your behalf threaten your relationships with other people and the development of your moral character? How should we relate to AI companions like Replika or Character.AI designed to simulate social interactions? Dr. Gubka is also interested in aesthetics (especially the philosophy of games) and writes about philosophy in popular culture.
