S. Vinod

Soumya Vinod, as the Executive Director of the Rice Advanced Materials Institute (RAMI), plays a pivotal role in shaping the institute’s vision and impact. Her responsibilities encompass program development, strategic initiatives, and fostering robust connections with academia, government bodies, and industry stakeholders. She has a wealth of experience in idea generation, team leadership, and research management across diverse technology readiness levels in both industrial and academic settings.

Prior to her current role, Soumya served as the Director of Research and New Products at Clarkson Aerospace Corp, where she managed a multi-year collaborative program with over 20 participating universities, sponsored by the United States Air Force. Earlier in her career, Soumya worked as a Materials Scientist at Baker Hughes, focusing on the development of cutting-edge materials and technologies for downhole applications.< p/>

Soumya’s academic journey includes a PhD in Materials Science and NanoEngineering from Rice University (awarded in 2016) and an MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Hawaii Manoa (completed in 2010). Her outstanding achievements were recognized with the prestigious Nettie S. Autrey Fellowship in 2015. She has also authored several impactful publications, contributing to the scientific community’s knowledge base.
