Sondra Hernandez is the Engineering Design Coordinator for the Oshman Engineering Design Kitchen (OEDK) at Rice University. She became the Engineering Design Coordinator for the OEDK in February 2022, after working as a Purchasing Assistant for the same department since June 2017. As the Engineering Design Coordinator, she assists faculty with running many of the Engineering Design based classes, assists students with the classes, and helps organize workshops and other behind the scene aspects for the courses she handles. She also helps with outreach programs to promote engineering education and innovation with tours of the space. She is one of the staff members who were recognized by the Rice Board of Trustees for their impact on providing transformative undergraduate education.
Sondra has a degree in Maritime Studies from Texas A&M University, with minors in Anthropology and Nautical Archaeology. She is passionate about exploring history, culture, and preserving nature. She is an avid outdoors person who loves to camp, hike, and take in the beauty of nature whenever she can. Sondra has the personal goal to visit all of the Texas State Parks and all of the National Parks in the US. She also likes to express her creativity through arts and crafts, such as sewing, crochet, and costuming. She is an avid reader of science fiction and fantasy novels, and is a self-proclaimed nerd over many topics and genres.
