Sarah Peters is an experienced former journalist who specializes in public relations and strategic communications. In her role as director of communications for the provost, she prepares talking points for the provost’s speaking engagements, produces an academic and research newsletter, manages the provost’s social media accounts (X and LinkedIn), updates the Office of the Provost website, writes campuswide announcements, assists with responding to media inquiries for the provost, and offers strategic counsel to the provost and members of her team.
Before joining Rice, Peters produced a wide range of communications as a multimedia writer-editor and then a public relations manager for Palm Beach Atlantic University, a private liberal arts university in West Palm Beach, Florida. She wrote stories, took photos and produced videos for the university’s website, social media and annual report; led local, national and international media relations; wrote and disseminated crisis communications for the university’s Crisis Management Team throughout the pandemic and various natural disasters, and wrote and edited a campus e-newsletter.
Prior to working in higher education public relations, Peters was a municipal reporter for daily newspapers in Pennsylvania and Florida, where she produced copy, shot and edited short videos, and engaged with readers on social media and in the community.
She earned bachelor’s degrees in journalism and political science from the Pennsylvania State University and a master’s degree in intercultural studies from Palm Beach Atlantic University.
