Sana Patel, Ph.D., serves as the Assistant Director of Religious Diversity and Pluralism at the Office of Access and Institutional Excellence. She previously worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy and the University of Toronto’s Institute of Islamic Studies.
Sana’s research interests include exploring digital religious spaces, ways to foster religiously diverse environments, and examining religious identity construction. Sana is keen on exploring the role of artificial intelligence in religious communities, specifically how AI-generated tools are being used to understand religious beliefs and practices. Sana's publications include “Multiculturalism” (2020), “Religion and Media in Canada” (2021), “What’s AI Got to Do With It? Muslims, Social Media, and Religious Authority” (2025), and “Islamophobia in North America” (2025).
She has a Ph.D. in Religious Studies from the University of Ottawa and an M.A. in Religion and Public Life from Carleton University.
