Rosie Nguyen joined the Office of Access and Institutional Excellence in May 2025 as the Director of Communications and Projects in Free Expression. She transitioned to higher education after a decade as a local TV news reporter and anchor, driven by her commitment to storytelling and social justice.

Her journalism career began at KEZI 9 News in Eugene, Oregon, followed by a return to her hometown of Salt Lake City, where she won a 2021 Rocky Mountain Regional Emmy and multiple first-place awards in categories like minority reporting and breaking news from the Utah Society of Professional Journalists at ABC4 Utah (KTVX). She later reported for ABC13 (KTRK) in Houston, where she was named one of the city’s Top 30 Most Influential Women in 2024.

In her role at Rice, Rosie blends her multimedia reporting experience with strategic communications to create visual and written content that highlights university programs, resources and access initiatives. She also oversees projects centered on freedom of expression within the Office of Access and Institutional Excellence.
