Muizz Akhtar (they/them/theirs) is a digital content specialist for the Kinder Institute for Urban Research at Rice University, overseeing its social media outreach efforts and contributing to the Urban Edge blog. Most recently at Vox, Muizz is a journalist who has written about urban planning, climate change, and public health in the United States and in China. They also bring years of experience in academia, strategic communications, nonprofit community organizations, and electoral campaigns. Born and raised in Houston, Muizz holds a bachelor’s degree in international studies from Texas A&M University. Above all, Muizz is civically engaged, an aspiring polyglot, and a punster extraordinaire.
