Linda Welzenbach Fries is the science writer for the Department of Earth, Environmental, and
Planetary Sciences at Rice University. She leverages 22 years of Smithsonian museum planetary
materials curation, science communication and exhibit outreach experience to promote faculty
and student research. Welzenbach also conducts advanced curation research with NASA and
the European Space agency to provide a reliable sample handling and characterization strategy
for Mars return samples.
