Juliann Losey

Juliann Losey is the Assistant Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for LGBTQ+ Thriving at Rice University, a newly established position aimed at fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment for LGBTQ+ students, staff, and faculty.

In their previous role at the University of Houston, Juliann made notable contributions as the Gender and Sexuality Education Program Manager for the LGBTQ Resource Center. They oversaw the LGBTQ+ ambassador/leadership program, organized campus-wide speaker events to expand LGBTQ+ awareness, and conducted educational workshops on various issues related to identity, inclusion, and allyship. Subsequently, they served as an Assistant Director for Student Housing and Residential Life, focusing on Student Leadership and DEI initiatives until the Texas SB 17 legislation led to a shift in their responsibilities, after which they concentrated on student leadership as a student organization advisor.

Juliann holds a BS in English Professional Writing from the University of North Alabama and a Master’s in Leadership and Ethics from Spring Hill College. With over a decade of experience in Higher Education Student Affairs, they have honed their skills in identity and leadership development, social justice, and gender and sexuality topics. They have designed experiential programs for students on the history of gender and the impact of intersectionality and culture on gender perceptions. Additionally, they have presented on LGBTQQIA identities and the importance of treating people with dignity and respect.

  • Nonbinary/Gender Nonconforming Grand Marshal of the Pride Houston 365 parade (2022).
    • Featured in 'The Beat Goes On: Pride in Houston" KHOU Documentary.
  • OutSmart Magazine's "Favorite Nonbinary Post-Secondary Educator/Teacher" (2023) and "Favorite Nonbinary LGBTQ Educator/Teacher" (2022).
  • Ambassador Award from University of Houston Division of Student Affairs & Enrollment Services (May 2022).
  • Impact Award from University of Houston Staff Council (June 2023).
  • Outstanding Assessment Award from University of Houston Division of Student Affairs (May 2024).

In their new role at Rice University, Juliann continues to champion diversity and inclusion initiatives, striving to create a dynamic environment that provides intersectional support for all members of the Rice University community.

Outside of their professional endeavors, Juliann enjoys writing, performing improv and stand-up comedy, and exploring local restaurants with friends. They enjoy amatuer photography, crafting with their fiancé, and spending quality time with their dog and cat. Juliann is passionate about music, and has their eclectic, ever-growing song library constantly on shuffle.
