John Lawrence joined Rice Management Company in 2012 and is the Deputy Chief Investment Officer and was promoted to Chief Investment Officer and President, Rice Management Company. In this role, Mr. Lawrence leads the investment management function of the organization. He also provides thought leadership, guidance, and ongoing assessment of the University's endowment and capital structure in terms of strategy, process, and policies supporting the University's current and future needs.

Previously, Mr. Lawrence spent 12 years in public equity investments, most recently at Tudor Pickering & Holt, covering energy securities. Prior to Tudor Pickering & Holt, Mr. Lawrence was a Principal & Portfolio Manager at Transamerica Investment Management in Los Angeles. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in managerial studies from Rice University, an M.B.A. from the UCLA Anderson School of Management, and is a CFA® charter holder.
