John Brannen is a staff writer for the Kinder Institute for Urban Research, contributing to the Urban Edge blog. Throughout a 10-year career, he has held several positions in local news and public relations. He served as a public relations account executive at Scurfield Group and as a media relations representative for the University of Houston Law Center. Other stints include time as a web editor for KPRC Channel 2 and as an online sports producer for the Houston Chronicle. He is a native Houstonian who graduated from the University of Houston with a bachelor’s degree in journalism.
