Jessica Ramirez

Jessica Ramirez joined the SSI team as the Assistant Director for the Rice Emerging Scholars Program (RESP) in October 2023. Born and raised in Houston, TX Jessica earned her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Houston. Upon graduation, she taught high school math in the Houston area for four years. She then returned to her alma mater, working to support underrepresented students seeking to obtain degrees in STEM majors. She is honored and excited for the opportunity to continue this work at Rice. In her spare time, Jessica enjoys spending time with family, trying new recipes, and is always looking for new tv show or book recommendations.

Advising Philosophy

Jessica embraces that each student is on a distinctive path. She advocates for flexibility and resilience, acknowledging that initial plans may evolve. Jessica wants her students to know that setbacks are opportunities for redirection and growth. Just because one path may not work out as anticipated, there is always potential for other, possibly even better, opportunities. She is committed to helping students navigate these transitions and discover new possibilities along their academic and personal journeys.
