Ivan Coluzza

Prof. Ivan Coluzza is a distinguished researcher in the field of computational biophysics, specializing in the application of statistical mechanics to soft matter and complex biological systems.  His research focuses on developing nanomaterials and polymers that mimic biological systems, using advanced computational tools to innovate in medical and technological applications. His research has been funded by many national and European programs: Austrian FWF, Spanish MINECO, European Innovation Council and European FP6 Horizon among others.

Born in Rome, Italy, he earned his degree in Physics from La Sapienza University in Rome and his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Amsterdam under the supervision of Professor Daan Frenkel.

Throughout his career, Prof. Coluzza has developed a profound interest in various fields ranging from physics to biology. He has worked with leading biophysics groups worldwide, establishing an extensive network of collaborators. His postdoctoral research took place at the University of Cambridge and the Institute for Medical Research in London. He then served as an assistant professor at the University of Vienna. Since 2017, he has been a recipient of the Ikerbasque Research Professor grant and has directed the computational biophysics group, first at CIC biomaGUNE in San Sebastian, Spain, and then at BCMaterials in Leioa, Spain.

Currently, Prof. Coluzza holds a Research Scientist position at SCI  CTBP and Ken Kennedy center at Rice University.
