As the Director of Curriculum and Instruction at the Rice Office of STEM Engagement (R-STEM), he provides leadership and science content support across R-STEM initiatives, including oversight for the ConocoPhillips Rice Elementary Model STEM Lab (REMSL), the REMSL Catalyst leadership program, and the ConocoPhillips Applied Mathematics Program (AMP!). Mr. Cerda’s programs emphasize the design of instructional mentoring for teachers and the advancement of strategies to support STEM teachers. He is also responsible for administering the RSTEM Academy for students in grades 5–12, the NSF Nanotechnology Research Experience for Teachers (RET) program, the Cancer Health Advancement through Networks, Guidance and Education (CHANGE) program, and the NSF Microelectronics Using Project-Based Learning (REM: EMProject). Before working at Rice, Isaias was a science teacher, an elementary bilingual math teacher, and a science lab specialist. Cerda holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston-Downtown and a Master of Education in Administration with Principal Certification from Lamar University.
