Elmer Whitehead has a notable career in the engineering sector. He began his journey as an HVAC consulting engineer, designing systems tailored to diverse regions across the country like California, Illinois, and Texas. In 2011, Elmer launched his own engineering consulting firm. This venture showcased his entrepreneurial spirit and allowed him to maintain an active role as a consulting engineer. He also holds engineering licensure in nearly a dozen states.
In 2013, Elmer joined Rice University, as a mechanical engineer and project manager. Representing Rice, he liaised with engineering consultants on all new building construction and major renovation projects. In August 2023, he assumed the position of Interim Assistant Vice President of Facilities, Engineering, and Operations overseeing the following areas: Plant Operations Services, Maintenance Services, Business Process Services, Custodial Services, Grounds Services, Facilities Data Analytics Services and Financial and Business Services.
Elmer holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. Throughout his professional journey, Elmer has remained an active member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers.
