Elizabeth Cummins Muñoz is the Director of the Office of Academic Support for Undergraduate Students and Senior Lecturer in the Program in Writing and Communication. She has taught language, writing, and culture for nearly three decades and served as director of Rice's foundational writing program from 2017-2024. At the Program for Writing and Communication, Cummins Muñoz developed and led a writing coach program for introductory writing courses and developed the FWIS Writing Studios. Her prior roles include Lecturer of Spanish at the former Center for the Study of Languages at Rice, as well as visiting lecturer positions at the University of Pennsylvania, St. Thomas University, and the University of Houston. Cummins Muñoz's research interests include developmental education and inclusive learning support, and cultural and gender studies. She is the author of several scholarly and public-facing essays and a book of narrative-driven nonfiction, Mothercoin (Beacon, 2022).
