Devin T. Mays holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Howard University and a Master of Fine Arts from The University of Chicago. Mays’s interdisciplinary practice is an exercise in wandering he often refers to as a practice-in-practice. Through sculpture and installation, sound, performance, and photography, Mays creates poetic gestures of observation and ritual. He has exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; Malmö Konstmuseum; The Driehaus Museum; Museum of Contemporary Photography; Lowe Art Museum, University of Florida; Nahmad Projects, London; The Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts; DePaul Art Museum, Chicago; Regards Chicago and The Gray Center for Arts & Inquiry among others. Mays currently holds a fellowship with the Center for Engaged Research and Collaborative Learning (CERCL) and the Visual and Dramatic Art Department at Rice University. Through teaching, artistic practice, and public programming, Mays will dedicate his fellowship to focusing on notions of impermanence.
