Chris Evans serves as Executive Director of the Department of Student Media, where he leads the university’s student journalism, broadcasting, and media organizations. He oversees publications, radio, digital media, and experiential learning initiatives that provide students with opportunities to develop leadership, storytelling, and professional communication skills while serving the Rice and greater Houston communities.

With more than two decades of experience in journalism and higher education, Evans has worked as a reporter, editor, educator, adviser, and administrator. His professional interests include student media, local journalism, experiential learning, media leadership, and First Amendment issues in education. 

In addition to his work at Rice, Evans has served in national leadership roles supporting collegiate journalism and student press freedom, including as president of the College Media Association. He currently serves as treasurer of New Voices Texas, a nonprofit organization that advocates for the rights of student journalists and their advisers.
