Bezaye is Environmentalist by profession and has a PhD in ecosystem management (Terrestrial carbon), MSc in Environmental Science and BSc in Plant Sciences from the universities of New England, Australia and Addis Ababa and Haramaya, Ethiopia respectively. She has been managing projects and conducting research on sustainable land management, terrestrial carbon sequestration and in recent years on the impact of water pollution on ecosystem health. She recently joined the department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences at Rice University. She is excited about her new role as she is working between the department and Baker’s institute in translating Science into tools that work for the community in carbon trading. She is passionate about contributing to the research and development efforts towards achieving SDGs through collaborations, transdisciplinary and systems thinking research approaches for viable social and environmental impact.
