Althea Carlson

Althea Pearl Carlson (they/them) studied at the University of California, Santa Cruz, graduating with a BA in Feminist Studies and Education. During this time, they worked a variety of student leadership roles, and directed the Queer Fashion Show.

Prior to their new role as CSWGS Center Administrator at Rice University, Althea has been serving UC Santa Cruz as the Assistant College Programs Coordinator at Porter College for the past 4.5 years, where they worked closely with students, staff and faculty to produce meaningful co-curricular programs and events for the Porter College and UCSC community. Some of these programs include advising the Queer Fashion Show, producing the QFS Digital Archives, as well as producing a series of spotlight programs for Women’s History Month, Black History Month, and LGBTQIA+ History Month.  Professionally, Althea has developed specialties in University Affairs, Administration, Curriculum, Training, Event Management, Venue Management, A/V and Theatrical Design, and Community Building.
