Aishwarya Lakshmi received her Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of Chicago. Her disciplinary focus is late eighteenth to early twentieth century British India, and postcolonial literature and theory. At Boniuk Institute, she leads strategic initiatives for the institute, such as the Religious Literacy Series, and programmatic and partnership build. She was previously an Assistant Professor of English at Hamilton College and Program Director at the Women's, Gender, & Sexuality Program and Institute for Research on Women, Gender & Sexuality at the University of Houston.

She has published articles and book chapters on feminist readings of events in postcolonial India within a textual and genealogical framework; and sacred imaginaries and aesthetic production of home, homeland and empire pre- and post the Revolt of 1857.
