Vasiliki (Vaso) Rahimzadeh, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy at Baylor College of Medicine. Her NIH-funded research program investigates the ethical, legal, and social issues of emerging technologies with a special emphasis on human genomics and AI.

Dr. Rahimzadeh earned her BS in Microbial Biology from the University of California, Berkeley, followed by an MSc in Experimental Medicine and a PhD in Family Medicine and Primary Care Research, both with specializations in Biomedical Ethics, from McGill University. She also completed postdoctoral training at the Stanford Center for Biomedical Ethics through a National Human Genome Research Institute’s Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications training grant. Her scholarship has helped shape the governance of data-intensive and technology-enabled biomedical research. She has published field-defining work on pediatric genomic data sharing, cloud-based genomic data stewardship, data access governance, ethical provenance, AI-enabled health care, metaverse-enabled medicine, and commercial spaceflight research ethics in leading journals including JAMA Pediatrics, Nature Medicine, Nature Reviews Genetics, Science, Nature Astronomy, Genetics in Medicine, Neuron, and the American Journal of Bioethics. Dr. Rahimzadeh currently serves on the NASA Bioethics Advisory Panel and leads the Regulatory and Ethics Work Stream of the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health. She has contributed to reports from the National Academies and World Health Organization on topics related to international data governance and research ethics.
