George Kypriotakis

WEBSITE(S)| UT MD Anderson

Dr. George Kypriotakis is a Sociologist and Quantitative Methodologist with interests in psychosocial processes related to cancer preventive behaviors.  His work is interdisciplinary – cutting across statistics, sociology, psychology and health.  Kypriotakis’ current scholarship focuses on methodological issues in the design and analysis of experimental and observational studies related to risky behaviors (such as tobacco use) and on the etiology of the social context to generate such behaviors.  In this work, he situates propensity of tobacco use, treatment effectiveness and abstinence within the individuals’ psychosocial processes, with special attention to social determinants.

In addition to this stream of research, Dr. Kypriotakis is branching into new areas of collaboration. For example, he is involved in a research team bringing together tobacco pharmacotherapy and genetics to identify interactions that shape smoking cessation and nicotine dependence. He is also collaborating with brain imaging researchers to improve classification of individuals into neuroaffective typologies using Bayesian methods.
