Valery Khabashesku

Prof. Dr. Khabashesku is the adjunct professor and lecturer in materials science and nanoengineering. Previously, he was for over 8 years with Baker Hughes International Oil Field Services Company, serving as Head of Nanotechnology Center of Excellence, Senior R&D Manager, and Senior Technology Advisor. Before joining this company, Khabashesku was a faculty member in the Chemistry Department at Rice University and the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Houston for nearly 20 years. He holds a professorial Doctor of Science degree and doctoral C.Sc. degree from the Zelinsky Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences and an M.Sc. in chemistry from Lomonosov Moscow State University. He has authored or coauthored more than 350 technical papers and holds 110 US and international patents. He is also an editor of the MDPI Materials journal and Wiley Journal of Nanotechnology.

Research Areas

Dr. Khabashesku's research interests are nanomaterials chemistry and oilfield, energy, aerospace, and biomedical applications of nanotechnology based on new material properties enabled by surface functionalization using chemical (gas phase fluorination and other) methods.
