Sana Patel, Ph.D

Sana Patel, Ph.D, is a postdoctoral fellow at the Baker Institute for Public Policy. She s a distinguished scholar of digital Islam and religious authority online. She is keen on exploring the role of artificial intelligence in Muslim communities and further exploring how Islamophobia manifests in online spaces and shapes global anti-Muslim experiences. Her other research interests include (non)religion, religious diversity, immigration, and digital religion. Sana's publications include: “Religion and Media in Canada” (2021), “Hybrid Imams: Young Muslims and Religious Authority on Social Media” (2021), and “Islamophobia in North America” (2025). She has a PhD in Religious Studies from University of Ottawa, and a MA in Religion and Public Life from Carleton University.
