Paul Gerardo Yeh

Paul Gerardo Yeh (he/him/his) is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Kinesiology Department at Rice University. Dr. Yeh earned his Bachelor of Arts degrees in Biology and Political Science at Vanderbilt University, and his Medical degree, Master of Public Health, and Doctor of Public Health degrees from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He completed an NCI cancer prevention research postdoctoral fellowship at UTHealth. He has served as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Physician Assistant Department and as a Faculty Associate with the UTHealth School of Public Health.

Dr. Yeh's research interests include cancer prevention (e.g., screening promotion), preventive medicine (synergizing medicine and public health for primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention), decision science (how to guide decision-making given uncertainty), health services research, health economics (determining the most cost-effective strategy to improve population health), and health equity (addressing socioeconomic, sociocultural, and technological barriers to healthcare access). He has authored over 15 publications and given state and national conference presentations with experience on National Institute of Health-funded research projects applying epidemiological, health economics, and decision science analysis for cancer, chronic disease, and mental health prevention/management.

Dr. Yeh is passionate about culturally responsive active teaching and empowering student mentoring. He is active in national and state public health and medical organizations. He is also active locally as a member of the Asian American Health Coalition. He also serves as a reviewer for peer-reviewed journals, including BMJ Open and Frontiers in Sleep.

Beyond academia, Dr. Yeh enjoys biking with his wife and toddler, swimming to get away from the Houston heat, quoting/referencing/watching “The Office,” and being a “foodie” engaging in culinary adventures to connect with all the diverse cultures that fuel the success of Houston.
