Our research explores fundamental questions in genome biology and evolution, using a comprehensive approach that combines field, lab, molecular, and computational methods. We investigate how natural populations of vertebrate species diverge, adapt, and persist across changing environments through time, with a focus on understanding the role of structural variation and recombination dynamics in adaptation. We are also interested in applying an evolutionary genomics framework to understand the genomic context and functional impact of structural variation in cancer. Ultimately, our goal is to understand the causes and consequences of genomic change — how it shapes the capacity of organisms to adapt to a rapidly changing world, and how genomic instability, over the course of a lifetime, can drive the evolution of cancer.
