Research Summary
Our research at The University of British Columbia is directed toward the total synthesis of nitrogenous natural products that possess interesting structures and useful biological activities.
Biography
Marco A. Ciufolini (Rome, Italy, 1956; B.Sc. 1978, Spring Hill College, Mobile, AL, USA; PhD 1981, University of Michigan, Prof. M. Koreeda; postdoctoral fellow, 1982-84, Yale University, Prof. S. Danishefsky) is the Canada Research Chair in Synthetic Organic Chemistry at the University of British Columbia. He started his independent career in 1984 at Rice University, where he rose through the ranks and was promoted to Professor in 1997. In the same year, he was offered a professorship at the ESCPE Lyon and the University Claude Bernard Lyon and moved to France, but in 2004 he returned to North America to accept his current position. His research interests center on the chemical synthesis of nitrogenous natural products and span natural products chemistry, synthetic methodology, and medicinal chemistry.
