Marco Bassetto joined Rice University in 2026. Formerly, he was a monetary advisor in the Economic Research Department at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. He has also been senior economist and research advisor at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, professor at University College London and assistant professor at the University of Minnesota and at Northwestern University. He received a B.A. from Bocconi University (Milan, Italy) and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago.

Marco’s research focuses on applications of game theory to macroeconomics and the design and consistency of macroeconomic policy. His work has been published in a number of top-tier journals, including American Economic Review, Econometrica, Journal of Political Economy, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Review of Economic Studies, Journal of Economic Theory, Journal of Monetary Economics, Review of Economic Dynamics, and Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control.
