Lisa M. Basgall

Ms. Lisa M. Basgall is the Director of Rice Emergency Medical Services, an Advanced Life Support First Responder Organization serving the needs of the Rice University Community. Rice EMS is part of the Rice University Police Department, and in addition to providing EMS coverage for the campus, Rice EMS provides community education (CPR & First Aid certification), special event coverage, and EMT and Advanced EMT certification courses for interested students, faculty & staff.

A native of Kansas City, Missouri, Ms. Basgall earned a Bachelor’s of Arts degree from Marquette University in English and Secondary Education, and is a licensed secondary education teacher. She has a Master of Arts degree from Villanova University in Liberal Studies. While teaching high school in Philadelphia, Lisa started volunteering at her local EMS service, and within three years she had achieved paramedic certification and was working in EMS in the Greater Philadelphia area. Combining education experience with EMS, Ms. Basgall held several positions as an EMS Educator and a clinical skills coordinator before relocating to Houston.

Moving to Houston in 2009, Ms. Basgall now serves as the administrative and operations director for Rice EMS, managing a service with an average of 85 members. She is a licensed paramedic in Texas, as well as an Advanced Coordinator for EMS Education, recognized by the Texas Department of State Health Services. Ms. Basgall holds national certification as a paramedic, and is active in the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). She is an Advanced Cardiac Life Support instructor. She serves as the Advanced Coordinator for all Rice EMS Courses, including the EMT and Advanced EMT Courses, and as the Program Director for the EMS Leadership Course and EMS Undergraduate Research Course.
