Dr. An merges computational protein design with biochemistry to engineer enzymes and create molecular sensing systems. Her research centers on three aims: (1) crafting protein sensors that map health-critical ligand landscapes, (2) installing intracellular reporters to accelerate enzyme evolution, and (3) engineering biosynthetic enzymes to expand the synthetic-biology toolkit. She also pioneers new algorithms for functional protein design. Her work has been published in leading journals such as Science, Nature, Nat. Chem. Biol., and Nat. Struct. Mol. Biol., etc. Dr. An welcomes academic and industrial partnerships to push the frontiers of protein design, molecular sensing and enzyme engineering.
