The Drosophila tracheal system is a good model for understanding the development of tubular organs such as the lungs and circulatory system of mammals. Currently we are pursuing the role of the transcription factor gene jim lovell in the growth and morphogenesis of this system. In collaborative studies we are also designing immunoprobes that harness the unique infrared fluorescence properties of single walled carbon nanotubes.
