Karin Broker, professor of printmaking and drawing, was the 1994 Texas Artist of the Year and was awarded two grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. Born in Penn, Pennsylvania, she received a BFA from the University of Iowa and an MFA from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. She studied printmaking under Stanley W. Hayter at the Atelier 17 in Paris and has been teaching at Rice since 1980. Professor Broker is represented by the Robert McClain Gallery in Houston.

Aside from having shown her work extensively in the United States, she has exhibited her art in China, Germany, Holland, Russia, France, Brazil, Australia and at the Royal Academy in London. Her work is included in numerous public and private collections including the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the National Museum of American Art at the Smithsonian, the Library of Congress, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Bechtler Collection, and the Fogg Museum at Harvard University. Her work is featured in a number of publications including Proof in Print: A Community of Printmaking Studios, published by the Boston Public Library (2001), Texas: 150 Works from the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (2000), Drawing: A Contemporary Approach, published by Harcourt Brace College Publishers (1997), and Art for Work, the New Renaissance in Corporate Collecting, published by the Harvard Business School Press (1993).

Professor Broker lives in Houston and has a farm with three horses, two dogs, numerous cats, and one husband.
