Julie Garvin profile picture

Julie has over 45 years in the energy industry in both technical and managerial positions. Most
recently, she was owner and CEO of an independent exploration and consulting firm where she
successfully grew the company’s working and royalty interests in multiple basins in the US and
International. Additionally, the consulting group leveraged geoscience expertise to assist clients
scoping of exploration opportunities, highgrading of solar development sites, AI use in
production optimization and various engineering projects.

She has published on geochemical techniques for unconventional resource evaluations and has
been an invited speaker at multiple geoscience meetings and conferences.

Julie serves on the advisory councils at both University of Texas and Rice University PSM
programs and has provided internships and full-time positions as well as mentored students.
Through numerous discussions with the students, they indicated a desire to learn more about
industry, specifically, how geoscientists play a role, and how projects get funded and executed.
It was from these discussions that we developed the course, “The Role of Geoscientists in the
Energy Industry” and started as a lecturer in the PSM program in 2025. Her passion is to share
her 45 years of experience, and hope to help prepare students for careers in the energy industry
by filling the gap between academics and the day-to-day job responsibilities in industry.
