For more than 35 years, Dr. Peters had the privilege of working at the forefront of NASA’s human spaceflight programs, helping design, build, test, launch, and operate the systems that carry humans beyond Earth.
His experience spans some of NASA’s most consequential programs, including Starlab -Commercial Low-Earth Orbit Development (CLDP), Commercial Crew Program with SpaceX and Boeing, Artemis, Constellation, Space Shuttle Return to Flight, and the International Space Station. From engineering design to real-time mission operations, he has worked where precision matters and failure is not an option.
Dr. Peters served at NASA Headquarters as Deputy Chief Engineer, helping shape the Agency’s technical strategy and ensure mission excellence across NASA’s Human Spaceflight programs. Along the way, he earned multiple advanced engineering degrees and a PhD in Systems Engineering—because in complex systems, systems engineering and integration is everything.
Beyond NASA, he was also the President/Owner of Quasar Data Center for over 15 years, where he focused on building high-performance technical teams, growing the business, and translating NASA systems rigor into the next-generation infrastructure, cloud computing, network services, cybersecurity, and AI-scale platforms.
Education and mentorship have always been central to his career. For over 20 years, Dr. Peters taught more than 180 graduate-level courses in Technical Management, Spacecraft & Launch Vehicle Design and Operations, Orbital Mechanics and Risk Management & Safety as an Adjunct Professor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, helping shape the next generation of space and industry professionals.
Prior to NASA, Quasar, and teaching at Embry-Riddle University, Dr. Peters graduated from the United States Naval Academy where he was an All-American wrestler. He is also a former Nuclear Submarine Officer having served on the USS Hyman G. Rickover fast attack submarine as the reactor controls officer and electrical division officer.
Dr. Peters is also the author of two books:
- Return to Flight: Inside NASA’s Space Shuttle Missions in the Wake of the Columbia Disaster
- Spacecraft Systems Design and Operations (graduate-level textbook)
Throughout his career, Dr. Peters has led and contributed to dozens of high-performance teams—serving as a Chief Engineer, technical leader, facilitator, teacher, and coach. He believes great missions are powered by great teams, and great teams are built intentionally. His teams strive at missions that involve complex systems, high reliability, bold goals, and peak performance under pressure.
