Fatima Baig

Fatima Baig earned her Ph.D. in Foreign Language and ESL Education from The University of Iowa. A native of Germany, she has been teaching foreign languages both in the United States and internationally since 2001. She joined Rice University in 2016 and serves as a faculty member in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, where she primarily teaches first- and second-year German language courses. A dedicated and passionate educator, Baig is an active member of both the local and national chapters of the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG). She regularly presents at national conferences, has led student trips to Germany, hosted teacher workshops at Rice, and taught at the prestigious Middlebury Summer Language Schools. Baig is deeply committed to advancing German language education and sharing her love for the German language and culture with students and educators alike.

At Rice, Baig serves as the Faculty Advisor for the “German Club”, is a Faculty Associate with Baker College and a Divisional Advisor for the School of Humanities.
