Edgar earned his B.Eng. in 2007 from Universidad Tecnológica de México and an M.Sc. in Materials Engineering from Instituto Politécnico Nacional in 2011. After teaching undergraduate engineering courses from 2008 to 2013, he pursued a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Liverpool, awarded in 2018, where his research focused on pore-scale properties of Lost Carbonate Porous Copper using Computational Fluid Dynamics. Following his Ph.D., Edgar joined Universidad Panamericana as a postdoctoral researcher in late 2018, studying applications of Machine Learning and AI in Materials Engineering. He later became a full-time researcher and, in 2021, was appointed Head of Postgraduate Programs for the M.Sc. in Data Science and Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence. He is also a member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers (SNI), Mexican Society of Artificial Intelligence (SMIA), and IEEE. Currently, Edgar’s research centers on using Machine Learning and AI for materials characterization and behavior prediction, alongside interdisciplinary collaborations in time series analysis, image and natural language processing, ethics in AI, and ML for business decision making. In 2022 he joined Rice University as a full-time Lecturer, teaching Machine Learning and Data Science fundamentals. Students can find additional resources for his classes at DataCamp.
