BIOGRAPHY

Humans use their senses to explore and learn about the world, and haptics — our sense of touch — plays an essential role in these interactions. During her time at Rice, Elyse will be working with Dr. Marcia O’Malley as part of the MAHI Lab. She will build new haptic technology and run psychophysical experiments in virtual and augmented environments that explore how humans perceive events and interactions, with a focus on multisensory integration and sensory illusions. Through this work, she hopes to better understand how people integrate and interpret multisensory cues in cases of congruence as well as mismatch. In addition to being a Rice Academy Fellow, Elyse is also an Intelligence Community Postdoctoral Research Fellow.
