Charles Dove

Director of the Rice Film Program, Charles Dove is a Professor in the Practice of Art and has been teaching film and literature in Houston since the 1990s.  He works on film genres and modes, film history and theory.  He has been Director of Rice Cinema since 2002 and is also the Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Film and Photography Concentration.
 
Raised in Chicago, he received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Illinois. He studied in Baltimore at Johns Hopkins University where he received both a Master of Arts and a Doctorate. His areas of teaching and research are Hollywood, early cinema, genre, 19th and 20th century literature, and film and literary theory.
